Anacortes Edges Sedro-Woolley 65–63 in Overtime Thriller
Sedro-Woolley came up just short Monday night, falling to Anacortes 65–63 in overtime in a tightly contested home conference matchup. The Cubs forced the extra period when Ethan DeJong scored the game-tying basket with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, capping a strong late push.
In overtime, Anacortes sealed the win when Spencer Roberts knocked down the game-winner with two seconds left. Roberts and Brennan Morgenthaler led the Seahawks with 15 points apiece, while Micah Dickison added 14. DeJong led all scorers with a standout 25-point performance for Sedro-Woolley.
Spartans Battle, But Eagles Stay Unbeaten at 73–60

STANWOOD — Stanwood stayed competitive early, but undefeated Arlington pulled away late for a 73–60 win.
Kam Gleaves led the Spartans with 17 points, while Armani Ortiz scored 14 and Brenner Perry added 11, giving Stanwood three players in double figures. The Spartans battled throughout before Arlington’s depth took over in the second half.
Arlington (4–0) was led by Carson Rowell’s game-high 22 points and a complete effort from Mac Crews, who finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Micah Robison chipped in 11. Stanwood falls to 1–4.
Vikings Pull Away in Second Half to Beat Spartans 71–50
The Vikings pulled away behind Devin Freeman’s 21 points and Yeki Bekele’s 20, overcoming strong efforts from Stanwood’s Jayden Abell and Caison Konnerup, who each scored 11. Key plays included Rece Green setting up Abell for a basket and Freeman driving to the hoop for Lake Stevens. The Spartans were unable to keep pace, dropping to 1–3 on the season. The Cubs established control early with strong defensive pressure and steady scoring, then held off multiple Stanwood runs to secure the double-digit victory.

Mount Vernon Bulldogs girls basketball team improved to 2–1 with a 51–30 win over North Kitsap on Monday night. Kim Williams hit a three-pointer, then immediately stole the inbound pass, sparking a key Bulldogs run. She finished with a team-high 17 points to lead Mount Vernon to the victory
6th-Seeded Everett Seagulls Capture District 1 3A Volleyball Championship
The 6th-seeded Everett Seagulls clinched the District 1 3A Volleyball Championship with a straight-set victory over the Monroe Bearcats, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22. Both teams advance to the State 3A Tournament.
Everett’s Ava Gonzalez delivered the match-winning point, sealing the championship for the Seagulls.
Ferndale Golden Eagles Punch Ticket to State with Comeback Win Over Snohomish
The Ferndale Golden Eagles are heading to State after a thrilling 4-1 victory over the Snohomish Panthers in the District 1 3A Volleyball Tournament winner-to-State game.
Snohomish jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-11. But Ferndale battled back, capturing the next three sets 25-23, 25-21, and 25-12 to secure the win and continue their postseason run.
Stanwood Rallies to State with 3-1 Victory over Mt. Vernon
Stanwood advances to State with a 3-1 victory over the Mount Vernon Bulldogs in the District 1 3A Winner-to-State match. Mount Vernon took the first set 25-22, but the Spartans responded with three straight sets, 25-16, 25-21, and 25-16.
Sedro-Woolley Cruises Past White River, 27-7
Sedro-Woolley showed why they’ve been one of the state’s top teams, rolling past the White River Hornets 27-7 on Saturday to remain undefeated at 11-0.
The Hornets struck first, but the Cubs quickly seized control. Facing a critical 4th and 14, Cliff Tadema delivered a clutch strike to Kolyn Rochester, tying the game and giving Sedro-Woolley momentum. Tadema would find Rochester again in the second quarter to give the Cubs a 14-7 lead heading into halftime.
Sedro-Woolley’s offense stayed unstoppable in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Tadema powered in from five yards out, extending the lead to 21-7. Rochester capped off the scoring with his third touchdown, a five-yard run, pushing the final margin to 27-7.
The victory keeps the Cubs perfect at 11-0, continuing a season-long offensive streak in which they’ve averaged 31.1 points per game. Meanwhile, White River suffers their first loss of the season, falling to 10-1.
Up next, Sedro-Woolley will face a tough test against O’Dea on Friday as they aim to maintain their unbeaten run.
Stanwood Sweeps Meadowdale to Advance to District 1 Semifinals
The Stanwood Spartans advanced to the District 1 3A semifinals with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-23 sweep of Meadowdale.
Whitney Longspaugh led the team with 11 kills, 15 digs, and two aces, while setter Addison Bowie had 32 assists, two aces, and two blocks. Harper Neyens added nine kills, three digs, and two aces. Cambrielle Brown powered the Spartans from the service line with seven aces, along with six kills and five digs.
Stanwood (14-1) will now move on to the semifinals with momentum on their side.
Sedro-Woolley Battles Past Gig Harbor to Advance to State 3A Round of 16
It was a hard-fought, defensive showdown Saturday night as the Sedro-Woolley Cubs held off the Gig Harbor Tides for a 14-7 victory in the opening round of the State 3A playoffs.
The Cubs struck first when Jae Thompson powered into the end zone from five yards out to give Sedro-Woolley an early lead. They extended that advantage to 14-0 in the second quarter when quarterback Cliff Tadema connected with Ethan Dejong on a five-yard touchdown pass.
Gig Harbor battled back in the second half, finding the end zone to cut the deficit to 14-7, but the Cubs’ defense proved too tough, coming up with key stops down the stretch to preserve the win.
The victory keeps Sedro-Woolley’s perfect season alive at 10-0 and sends the Cubs into the State 3A Round of 16. Gig Harbor finishes its season at 6-4 after a strong late-season push that included four straight road wins.
Anacortes Cruises Past Ridgefield, Advances to State 2A Round of 16
Anacortes came into Saturday’s State 2A Round of 32 matchup riding a three-game winning streak—outscoring opponents by an average of 46 points—and left with even more momentum. The Seahawks dominated from start to finish, defeating the Ridgefield Spudders 35–0.
Ryan Harrington got the scoring started early, connecting with Zeke Hawkins on a 74-yard touchdown pass after a previous 64-yard score was called back due to a penalty. Shia Webster added a touchdown in the third period, giving Anacortes a commanding 21–0 lead. The Seahawks’ offense continued to roll, tacking on additional touchdowns as their defense stifled Ridgefield, holding them scoreless throughout the game.
With the win, Anacortes improves to 8–2 on the season and advances to the State 2A Round of 16, where they’ll look to continue their dominant postseason run.
Rainier Beach Vikings Top Stanwood Spartans in State 3A Round of 32
The Rainier Beach Vikings stormed past the Stanwood Spartans with a commanding performance, advancing to the Round of 16 in the State 3A Tournament.
The Vikings struck early, scoring on the very first play from scrimmage as Ze Watkins ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run to put Rainier Beach on the board. Stanwood quickly responded, with Alex Maldonado powering in an 11-yard touchdown run and a successful extra point giving the Spartans a brief 7–6 lead.
Rainier Beach regained control as quarterback Esquire Williams connected with Tariq Shabazz on a 35-yard touchdown pass, putting the Vikings ahead 20–7.
Through three quarters, the game remained tight, with Stanwood keeping pace and cutting the deficit to 20–14. But in the fourth quarter, Rainier Beach’s offense came alive, outscoring the Spartans 27–7 to secure a decisive victory.
With the win, the Vikings move on to the next round of the State 3A Tournament, while the Spartans’ season comes to a close.
Sedro-Woolley Claims Wesco Title with 28-7 Win Over Mountlake Terrace
Sedro-Woolley’s defense set the tone early and often, led by Nate Gahan, who recorded 10 tackles and two sacks, including a crucial third-down sack that stifled the Mountlake Terrace Hawks’ (8-1) opening drives. The Cubs’ defensive dominance forced mistakes and kept the Hawks off balance throughout the game.
On offense, Sedro-Woolley (9-0) struck first as quarterback Cliff Tadema connected with Ethan Dejong for a touchdown. Tadema later found Tyler Holt on a 42-yard pass, moving the Cubs deep into scoring position. Kolyn Rochester powered the running game with 111 yards and a touchdown, helping Sedro-Woolley maintain control and capitalize on the opportunities created by their defense.

Quarterback Alex Maldonado was spectacular, hitting Kolby McKnight for a 44-yard touchdown and later scrambling 16 yards into the end zone. Maldonado finished 17 of 22 for 318 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception, while McKnight hauled in 5 receptions for 116 yards and a score.
Our NorthSound Physical Therapy Player of the Game, Brenner Perry, stepped in at running back and made a huge impact. He carried the ball 12 times for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns, showing speed and vision as he bounced outside for big gains.
Stanwood’s offense was unstoppable all night, totaling 490 yards—318 passing and 172 rushing. The Spartans mixed explosive passing plays with a strong ground game, keeping Everett off balance and controlling the pace.

Burlington-Edison Claims Inaugural Battle of the Bridge Trophy with Four-Set Win Over Mount Vernon
The Burlington-Edison Tigers finished their Northwest Conference season on a high note, defeating the Mount Vernon Bulldogs 25-22, 13-25, 25-15, 25-14 on Wednesday night, capturing the inaugural Battle of the Bridge Volleyball Trophy. Brooklyn Weynands led the Tigers with 12 kills and 12 digs, including a back-row kill against the Bulldogs. Mia Ray added eight kills, 14 digs, and five aces, while setter Reese Tyler tallied 22 assists, 15 digs, and scored on a quick hitter. Mikala Shaw also delivered a key block for a Tiger point. The Tigers end conference play at 9-6 (9-8 overall), while the Bulldogs fall to 5-10 in both conference and overall records.
